Boulder police seeking help in finding inline skating hockey stick attacker

Boulder police are asking for the public’s help in finding a suspect who couldn’t keep his aggressive forecheck inside the barn.

The suspect, reported to be a white man of medium-tall height and a slender build on inline skates, attacked a bicyclist with a hockey stick near 27th Way and Baseline Road Thursday, according to a news release from the City of Boulder.

The aggressor was wearing black clothing, a black ski mask and had a green Gatorade bottle with an orange top in his back right pants pocket at the time of the attack, Boulder Police Department officials said in the release. Police first responded to the initial 911 call just after 7 p.m. Thursday.

Upon arrival at the scene, officials found the victim, who told police the assailant had physically and verbally attacked him from behind while he was riding his bicycle, according to the release. The victim was not seriously injured in the incident and refused medical treatment; the suspect fled the scene after the victim called 911.

Based on preliminary information, authorities believe the attacker may have followed the victim from the University of Colorado Boulder campus just before the assault, according to another news release from the city Friday afternoon. Detectives have also noted that the victim was the subject of a few social media posts and a flyer prior to to the incident.

Authorities are investigating whether the media played a role in the attack and are not sharing more information about the finding, according to the release. Investigators are also deliberately not releasing the identity of the victim at this time.

“The investigative focus right now is on speaking with any witnesses and on identifying and locating the individual in the photos so that we can better understand what occurred and why,” spokesperson Sarah Huntley said in the release.

Boulder police are asking for the community’s help in finding the attacker. Anyone who witnessed the event or has any information about it or the suspect is asked to call Boulder Police Detective Erin Starks at (303) 441-3067 with case reference number 25-10213 or send an email to starkse@bouldercolorado.gov.
