Rampart, Lewis-Palmer earn highest seeds among area teams at upcoming state girls volleyball tournament
The final three days of the girls volleyball season begins Thursday as seven area schools head to the state tournament at Denver Coliseum.
Rampart and Lewis-Palmer earned the fifth seed in 5A and 4A, respectively, which is the highest among area qualifiers. Village is the lone area team attempting to repeat and the Mountaineers could earn their second title in their second year of competition.
The tournament concludes with the state championship matches for 5A-1A at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Coliseum. Below are a few notes regarding each of the Pikes Peak region’s teams headed to the three-day tournament.
5A
Rampart (23-2, fifth seed)
After a 15-10 finish in 2024, the Rams have dominated their competition and have dropped just nine sets since Oct. 1. During that stretch, the Rams’ only defeat came on Halloween in a 3-2 loss (23-25, 25-18, 25-17, 19-25, 13-15) to Eaton.
The Rams are well-balanced as Anaya Wright leads the team with 319 kills and 35 aces, Mae Boynton has 93 total blocks, Gabriella Melecio has 497 digs and Marcella Chiriboga has 692 assists.
Pine Creek (19-6, eighth seed)
The Eagles have a nine-match winning streak ahead of the state tournament and, since their 3-1 loss to Pueblo West on Oct. 16, Pine Creek has dropped just two sets.
Gabby Gallardo leads the team in kills with 207 in 81 sets played, but Morgan Holloman has 178 in 58 sets played with a .367 hitting percentage, which is 17th in Colorado.
4A
Lewis-Palmer (17-8, fifth seed)
Lewis-Palmer closed the year with wins in 13 of its final 14 games and swept seven of those opponents in the process. The Rangers also feature one of the top blockers in 4A as Anna Sletten compiled 76 total blocks in 78 sets played.
In the absence of senior Madi Crowe, who’s not played due to injury since Sept. 23, four players tallied 100-plus kills with Bridgette Bogenrief atop the bunch at 170.
Cheyenne Mountain (15-10, 11th seed)
This is the Red-Tailed Hawks’ eighth consecutive state tournament and they’ll hunt for the seventh title in school history and first since 2015. The Red-Tailed Hawks open against Mullen, which is the team Cheyenne Mountain beat in 2008 to earn the school’s first volleyball championship.
Cheyenne Mountain has two players over 200 assists with Kaisa Dowd at 336 and Jera Rodriguez with 226. The team has 812 total helpers, which has paved the way for Landry Roberts to lead the team with 329 kills.
3A
The Classical Academy (23-2, seventh seed)
As the state tournament begins, the Titans remain undefeated against 3A teams. TCA’s only losses came against 4A Cheyenne Mountain and Pueblo County. Since their loss to the Red-Tailed Hawks on Oct. 4, the Titans have dropped just six sets in 13 matches.
Ashlyn Delaney’s .424 hitting percentage ranks second in Colorado and Avery Jaeger’s 626 assists are fifth in 3A and 26th in the state.
Village (18-7, 12th seed)
Last year’s 3A champion dominated at regionals and dropped just one set en route to the Region 12 crown last weekend. In their two-year existence, the Mountaineers have two regional titles and have won 12 of their 13 regional sets played.
Norah Hollis leads the team with 286 kills in her sophomore campaign just one year after she sustained a broken back.
1A
Evangel Christian Academy (20-4, ninth seed)
This marks the Eagles’ first 20-win season of the MaxPreps era, which extends to 2007 for ECA. The Eagles finished 16-8 in 2024 and missed the state tournament and, prior to this year, had not had more than 16 wins in a season since 2009 when they went 18-5.
The Eagles have two of the top hitters and setters in the state as Ellie Wagner is third in Colorado with 409 kills and freshman Alyssa Costain is sixth in 1A with 635 assists.
