The Lumineers, a folk band with roots in Colorado, released a limited edition soccer jersey to support an Aurora immigrant girls’ soccer team, a news release from GOAL Projects announced Wednesday.

West Aurora Girls Soccer Team, which is backed by Soccer Without Borders — a group supporting immigrant youth in sports — will don The Lumineers’ light blue jerseys in the upcoming soccer season, and proceeds from the jerseys will go to the organization, the release said.

The Lumineers, who moved to Denver in 2009, are celebrating their 20th year as a band. They brought their 44-date Automatic World Tour to Empower Field at Mile High Stadium in August alongside another Denver band, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats.

In continuing celebration of the anniversary, along with an effort to support local soccer teams in the Denver area, the band released a limited edition soccer jersey this week in partnership with GOAL Projects — a creative studio working on a series in which they pair iconic musicians with hometown teams, according to the release.

Members of the Aurora soccer team come from various refugee communities in Northwest Aurora, with last year’s team made up of athletes from 13 different countries.

Proceeds from jersey sales will help cover Soccer Without Borders’ league fees, new equipment, coaching and transportation to help keep soccer free and accessible for Aurora West players.

“West Aurora’s story of new beginnings resonates so deeply with us,” co-founder of the Lumineers Wesley Schultz said in the release. “Like these players, we found our home and our creative family in Colorado. Through this project, we want to celebrate their grit and support their dreams, on the field and beyond.”

The band also recently surprised the soccer team with autographed jerseys and a video message, the release said, and the partnership “means the world” to Soccer Without Borders, the program’s director, Matt Kaiser, said.

“I’ve had the privilege as this team’s head coach to see them come so far with not only their soccer skills, but also their English development, confidence, and leadership,” Coach Erin Crossley said. “It was so rewarding for me to see this incredible group receive this special recognition from The Lumineers and to see their joy and excitement as they saw their new jerseys for the first time.”

Soccer Without Borders serves more than 900 youth in Colorado with free soccer and academic and leadership programs, and the support from The Lumineers is not a new trend for the band.

The Lumineers have long championed social causes, organizing Colorado Gives Back  — a livestreaming event during the COVID-19 pandemic  — that supported musicians and restaurant workers affected by the pandemic.

The light blue jerseys say the band’s name on the front and the number 05, for the band’s creation year, on the back. Album-inspired artwork wraps each sleeve, and the jersey has various other lyrical and band references.

They are for sale for $90 on GOAL Projects’ website.

Meanwhile, Denver Summit FC — Denver’s new women’s professional soccer club — has sold out of its season tickets, leaving thousands on the waiting list, according to Denver Gazette news partner 9News in an article Tuesday.

Denver Summit FC announced the club sold out its allotment of 8,500 season tickets for its inaugural 2026 season, 9News reported.

The club will play its inaugural home match of the 2026 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season at Empower Field at Mile High on Saturday, March 28, at noon.
