Air Force hockey looks to stay hot on the road, challenges Canisius after Thanksgiving holiday
The Falcons have much to be thankful for this holiday week.
Air Force hockey is 6-2 in its last eight games. The Falcons (7-6-1, 4-4) are coming off a series sweep of rival Army at West Point, New York, the team’s third in four weeks.
After a Thanksgiving feast, the Falcons will resume Atlantic Hockey America play at Canisius University in Buffalo, New York. Puck drop is 11:05 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
The Falcons had their best offensive output of the season at Army last weekend, scoring nine goals in the two games. Air Force’s forwards accounted for eight of the scores.
“I think we’re in a good spot right now overall with our team. … I think the forwards maybe recognized that we could get a little bit more and contribute more so on the scoreboard,” junior center Nick Remissong said. “I think just getting together, we decided that we wanted to forecheck hard, everything comes from our forecheck. We wanted to place emphasis on that and just making plays at the end of the day.”
The Falcons have been impressive away from Cadet Ice Arena this season, going 4-2. After being swept at Rochester Institute of Technology to open conference play Oct. 24-25, Air Force has been perfect on the road, sweeping Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut, on Nov. 7-8, before the Army series.
“Our superpower is our tenacity, our determination, our inner fuel,” Head Coach Frank Serratore said. “When we’re playing with that, we’re good. That’s our superpower. Without it, we’re average.”
Air Force will need that tenacity and determination this weekend as Canisius (7-6-1) is also coming off a sweep. The Golden Griffins swept Mercyhurst last weekend, ending a six-game winless streak.
