Aurora police officer fired after domestic violence arrest
An Aurora police officer was fired Monday after being arrested last week following a domestic violence incident, according to an Aurora Police Department news release.
Former Ofc. Philip Sullivan was arrested Wednesday night at his home in Westminster on misdemeanor charges of third-degree assault, harassment, obstruction, resisting arrest, failing to leave a premise and prohibited use of a weapon, the release said.
Sullivan started as an APD officer in January and was fired from the department Monday.
The Westminster Police Department is leading the criminal investigation and APD is running a parallel internal administrative investigation, according to the release.
Sullivan’s charges and alleged behavior in the case are “extremely troubling” and “run counter to the values” of APD, Chief Todd Chamberlain said in the release.
“We have zero tolerance for conduct that undermines public trust and victimizes others,” Chamberlain said. “The Aurora Police Department is committed to addressing any conduct that violates the standards we are sworn to uphold, and we hope this officer’s termination underscores that commitment.”
