Evergreen Lake Plunge to be rescheduled due to warm weather
EVERGREEN, Colo. — One of Colorado’s most beloved New Year’s traditions is on hold due to the unseasonably warm weather.
The Evergreen Lake Plunge, typically held on New Year’s Day, has been postponed this year due to a lack of ice on the lake, according to a media release. With the ice measuring less than two inches thick, Evergreen Lake isn’t ready, sponsors for the event said.
The Plunge is a popular Evergreen tradition and important fundraiser supporting local programs, such as the INSPIRE program at the Evergreen Park and Recreation District, the media release says. Active 4 All, the nonprofit that sponsors the event, is now exploring the possibility of rescheduling the event for a later date.
In a normal year, Evergreen firefighters cut a hole in the ice and stand ready to help as hundreds of jumpers plunge into the near-freezing water. On Jan. 1, 2025, nearly 400 people, which included families, friends, couples and people going solo, took part in the celebration, the media release says.
