RTD to resume D, H, L light rail service following Kalamath Street project

The Regional Transportation District announced that its D, H and L light rail lines will resume their normal service Sunday.

The announcement in a Saturday morning news release comes months after the services were re-routed off their usual routes as part of the agency’s $152 million light rail reconstruction project, which began in 2024 and is expected to run through 2026.

With the reinstatement, the three lines will now service their usual routes:

• The D Line will resume its regular service between the 18th/California and the 18th/Stout Stations instead of operating operating to/from Union Station.

• The H Line will resume its regular service between the Florida Station and the 18th/California and 18th/Stout Stations instead of operating to/from Union Station.

• The L Line will have its service reinstated.

Along with the changes, the agency will institute minor schedule changes on the E, R, H, D and W rail lines, according to the release. Bus routes 0, 4, 9, 43, 44, 51, 65, 76, 145X, 153, 206, 323, 324, 326, 327, AB2, BOLT, FF5, Free MetroRide, LD1, LD3 and LX2 will also see minor schedule updates.

The agency had not been able to run a full service on the three lines since the agency began its Kalamath Street portion of the reconstruction work, during which the roadway was closed between Speer Boulevard and Colfax Avenue. That project began on Oct. 19 and ended on Nov. 25 of last year.

While the project was underway, the D Line did not service Colfax at Auraria Station through the Downtown Loop, the H Line did not service between Southmoor Station and the Downtown Loop and the L Line was suspended entirely.

Even though the reconstruction of the Kalamath Street rail finished at the end of November, the agency did not immediately reinstate the suspended light rail lines. Rather, it ran a “Holiday Train” between the Interstate 25/Broadway and the 30th/Downing Stations on the exact route of the L Line.

The “Holiday Train” will run on 15-minute intervals through 11:30 p.m. Saturday before the schedule changes take place.
