No. 2 Denver Pioneers hockey drops third straight in 3-2 loss at Western Michigan | Colorado Sunshine

Where good news shines

Denver hockey’s hit a rare rough patch.

No. 7 Western Michigan beat No. 2 Denver 3-2 Friday at Lawson Arena in Kalamazoo, Mich., handing the Pioneers their third-straight loss.

Denver (12-3-0, 2-3-0 NCHC) had won 21 straight games dating back to last season prior to the losing streak.

“I thought we did a lot of good things throughout the game,” DU coach David Carle said. “We didn’t cash in and get it into the net until the third period, but I think probably what I was most proud of is guys sticking to the plan and staying together. We gave ourselves a chance in the third.”

DU goalie Matt Davis made 18 saves across two periods Friday before Freddie Halyk entered in relief. The Pioneers fell behind 3-0 before Jack Devine and James Reeder scored to narrow the deficit.
