RTD train crash kills pedestrian in Denver
A man was hit and killed by an RTD train while crossing the tracks Monday morning, and the intersection of Smith Road and Dahlia Street were closed until about 2 p.m. Monday.
The crash happened at the intersection of Smith and Dahlia, which is just south of Interstate 70 and east of Colorado Boulevard near the Park Hill neighborhood.
Police initially got a call about the crash just before 10 a.m., a DPD spokesperson told The Denver Gazette.
Preliminary information indicates the pedestrian, an adult man, was crossing the tracks prior to the crash, the spokesperson said.
It appears as though control devices, including flashing lights and arms down, were working when the pedestrian was crossing, the spokesperson said.
The victim’s identification will be released by the medical examiner’s office.
The area reopened to vehicles just before 2 p.m., a police social media post said.
Police did not release any further information about the crash or the victim.
