A road rage incident on Loveland Pass escalated to a driver smashing the windshield of another vehicle, according to a report from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred in recent days, involving three people in a rental car and a man in a truck traveling along the high-elevation pass often used to access Summit County ski resorts of Arapahoe Basin and Keystone Resort. This steep and winding road is often subject to extreme weather, which can be a factor in slow moving traffic at times.

According to the rental car driver, the man in the truck found himself unable to pass the rental car during a passing section of the road, opting to then tailgate the rental car from a close distance. The driver of the truck is then said to have passed the rental car on a double-yellow line where passing is not permitted before coming to a stop in front of the rental.

At that point, the man is said to have exited his truck, leaping onto the hood of the rental car and smashing the windshield. He then returned to his truck and drove off.

The sheriff’s office reports that the three people inside of the rental were uninjured, with an investigation into the case ongoing.
