Broncos to sign ex-Giants punter Matt Haack in free agency
Riley Dixon departure to Buccaneers opens punter vacancy in Denver
It appears the Broncos have filled a key special teams void.
Journeyman NFL punter Matt Haack has signed with the Broncos in free agency, according to a Wednesday social media post from agent Paul Sheehy. Haack played last season for the Giants averaging 47 yards per punt (on 21 attempts) with nine downed inside the 20-yard line.
The Broncos are seeking a replacement for punter Riley Dixon in 2025 after Dixon signed a free agent deal with the Buccaneers earlier this month.
Haack, 30, began his NFL career with four seasons playing for the Dolphins (2017-20). He has since played on four different teams: the Bills (2021), Colts (2022), Browns (2023) and Giants (2024). Haack has appeared in only five games over the past two seasons.
The Broncos’ new special teams coach, Darren Rizzi, was previously the special teams coach in Miami for two seasons with Haack. The Broncos also re-signed long snapper Mitch Fabroni last week on a three-year, $4.175 million contract. Haack and Fabroni both played college football at Arizona State.
Haack becomes the fifth outside free agent to agree to sign with the Broncos following tight end Evan Engram, safety Talanoa Hufanga, linebacker Dre Greenlaw and wide receiver Trent Sherfield.
