Iron Sharp Foundation to host spring cleanup on East Colfax Saturday

Volunteers will be joined by members of Denver and Aurora police departments

Volunteers from the Iron Sharp Community Foundation will work side-by-side with members of the Denver and Aurora police departments to spruce up East Colfax Avenue Saturday.

The spring cleanup event, which will begin at 10 a.m. at the Denver Police Training Academy, 2155 N. Akron Way, Denver, will last about five hours. Food donated by several local eateries will be available for volunteers after the cleanup has finished, according to the a news release.

“It’s been through a series of a couple of these projects that we’ve done over the last, I would say three or four years that, the interest has continued to build,” said Jordon Clark, founder of the Iron Sharp Foundation. “We really try to steward what we call ‘service that is set apart,’ that not only people are experiencing that love and compassion for the community, but that the neighborhoods and communities we’re serving are also experiencing that as well.”

The Iron Sharp Foundation is a Christian-based nonprofit organization established in 2021 that serves high-need communities in the metro Denver area.

For the event Saturday, volunteers are going to be split into three different groups, Clark said. One group will focus on Montview Boulevard, another Yosemite Street and the third on Colfax Avenue.

Additionally, representatives from the Denver Department of Transportation and Infrastructure will be removing graffiti and power washing business storefronts in the area early Saturday morning, Clark said.

“It’s not just about picking up some pieces of trash, we’re really trying to take care of the business aspect of it, the local economy, as well as the quality of life,” Clark said.
