Avalanche vs. Stars: 3 takeaways from Colorado’s commanding Game 4 win

Pure domination.

The Avalanche controlled the game from start to finish on their way to a massive 4-0 win over the Stars in Game 4 on Saturday night at Ball Arena. This series will go back to Dallas tied at two.

Here are three takeaways from the commanding win.

Special difference

Colorado’s power play was an abomination in Game 3, likely costing them the game. They managed to capitalize late in period one to give the Avalanche a huge lead going into the intermission, but the party was started by the penalty kill.

The Avalanche killed off an early penalty and then on the Stars second man-advantage, Logan O’Connor scored shorthanded, sending the crowd into a frenzy.

Makar looked like Makar

Dallas has done a good job of slowing down Cale Makar this series but eventually the superstar defenseman was going to have his night.

While he couldn’t find the back of the net thanks to Jake Oettinger playing out of his mind, Makar looked like his old self, breaking ankles at the offensive blueline and dominating play.

Landeskog’s moment

It’s possible Ball Arena has never been louder than after Gabriel Landeskog lit the lamp in the second period. When Landeskog let his patented half-slapper rip past Oettinger, the roof almost blew off the arena. You couldn’t even hear the public announcer when it was time to tell everyone about the goal.

A special moment for Landeskog’s first NHL goal since June 20, 2022. He added an assist in the third.
