Broncos add depth to defensive line with signing of Rashard Lawrence
Michael Conroy
The Broncos on Wednesday added depth to their line with the signing of veteran defensive tackle Rashard Lawrence to a futures contract.
The 6-foot-2, 308-pound Lawrence was taken by Arizona in the fourth round of the 2020 draft out of LSU. In his first three seasons with the Cardinals, he appeared in 25 games, with 13 starts and had 30 tackles.
Lawrence, 25, spent 2023 on practice squads of Miami, Carolina and Houston without appearing in a game.
The Broncos have been seeking depth on the defensive line with Mike Purcell (unrestricted) and Jonathan Harris (restricted) due to become free agents in March. There also is uncertainty whether defensive tackle D.J. Jones, whose $9.49 million base salary is not guaranteed for 2024, will remain with the Broncos, who have salary-cap issues.
Lawrence becomes the 14th player to sign a futures deal with the Broncos since the end of the season, 12 of them having been on their practice squad.
