14-year-old dies from motorcycle crash, Aurora police said

Investigators said crash occurred between off-road motorcycle and motor vehicle at S. Peoria Street and E. Louisiana Drive.

A 14-year-old Aurora boy has died of his injuries following a motorcycle crash that occurred more than a week ago, according to the Aurora Police Department.

At about 10 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, Aurora police officers responded to a crash involving a motor vehicle and off-road motorcycle at South Peoria Street and East Louisiana Drive.

Investigators determined a 14-year-old boy was driving the off-road motorcycle, with a 16-year-old passenger, at high speeds on the sidewalk before colliding with a Kia Sorento turning onto Louisiana Drive from Peoria Street, according to police.

Two men occupied the Sorento. The driver remained on-scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Police said the off-road motorcycle didn’t have a headlight or taillight and neither rider wore a helmet at the time of the crash. Both of the teenagers were taken to the hospital with injuries.

Speed and alcohol are being investigated as potential contributors to the crash, police said.

On Wednesday, Aurora police announced in a news released that the 14-year-old driver died.

The crash remains under investigation.

This incident marks the 11th fatal traffic accident in Aurora this year, according to police.
