Littleton teacher faces charges for sexual assault on child
David Feil, 49, is under investigation and placed under administrative leave at Roxborough Intermediate School.
Douglas County detectives arrested a school teacher Monday on two counts of sexual assault on a child, according to the sheriff’s office.
David Feil, 49, faces two felony counts of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Tuesday.
Officials said detectives with the special victims unit apprehended Feil on Monday. He is being held on no bond.
Douglas County School District officials said Feil is on administrative leave during his ongoing investigation.
Most recently, Feil was hired to be a sixth grade teacher at Roxborough Intermediate School and joined the Douglas County School District in 2014, according to DCSD officials.
Roxborough Intermediate School, located in a part of Littleton portioned into Douglas County, serves students from third to sixth grades.
“I know it is concerning to receive news of this nature,” Roxborough Intermediate School Principal Meghan Ofer said Tuesday in an emailed letter to parents and staff.
“Please know the safety and well-being of every student is of primary importance to Roxborough Intermediate and the Douglas County School District,” she said.
A substitute teacher is in place of Feil until the school year ends “to ensure learning continues,” Ofer said.
First hired as an educational assistant at Pine Lane Elementary School in February 2014, Feil became a short-term substitute teacher at various locations across the school district.
Feil began working at Roxborough Intermediate in 2015 as an educational assistant, then became a classroom teacher in 2017, according to the school district.
Arrest affidavit details claims against Feil
An arrest warrant provided by Douglas County courts claims Feil engaged in inappropriate conduct with a number of students years ago.
The detective in the affidavit, which is dated April 23, began interviewing those related to complaints filed against Feil back in March.
Court records show a complaint was filed in October 2021 accusing Feil of “having personal relationships with his students and specifically having students added onto his social media accounts,” a detective in the affidavit said.
The affidavit noted Feil allegedly utilized social media applications, particularly Instagram and Snapchat, to engage his students outside of class. Snapchat deletes unsaved messages after 24 hours and deletes photos after opening.
The affidavit said complaints against Feil included him allegedly touching his students in different areas, hugging them, brushing their hair, inviting them to sit on his lap and talking about inappropriate things in class.
Some students eventually reported his alleged actions on Safe2Tell, according to the affidavit. Safe2Tell is a service allowing students to report suspicious activities of teachers or community members.
One report claimed Feil sent inappropriate videos on Snapchat and plays online video games with his students, according to the affidavit.
In the affidavit, detectives said Feil defended much of his alleged actions and denied numerous other complaints against him.
The affidavit mentioned Principal Ofer confirming to the detective that the school, during the 2021-2022 school year, issued Feil a “letter of direction” to “not follow children on any sort of social media.”
Feil admitted he crossed lines and knew he took his personal relationships with students too far that year, a detective said in the affidavit.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office asks anyone with information regarding Feil’s case to contact Sara Clay at [email protected].
