Denver weather: Potential ‘latest 90-plus high’ on tap for Wednesday
After Denver residents experienced highs in the mid 70s on Tuesday, the heat will be cranked back up on Wednesday as high pressure pushes back over southern Colorado.
On Oct. 2, 2005, the mercury reached 88 degrees in Denver, and today’s forecasted high of 89, potentially 90, could be the new record, marking the latest 90-plus high for the Mile High City.
Denver residents can expect sunny skies, with a high near 89, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. South winds will blow between 6 to 9 mph, becoming north in the afternoon.
“Warmer and very dry air will be over Colorado today,” the NWS said. “Near record high temperatures will combine with single digit humidities to produce elevated fire danger this afternoon.”
The winds will be strongest in the northern mountains and northern border areas where wind gusts this afternoon will be between 25 and 35 mph.
Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 53. East northeast winds between 5 to 8 mph will become southwest after midnight.
Late week and into the weekend, expect warm, dry and sunny conditions persisting with no rain or snow showers in sight. High temperatures will be in the upper 70s to middle 80s.
Here’s the 4-day forecast from National Weather Service.
Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 78. Calm wind becoming east northeast 5 to 8 mph in the morning.
Friday: Sunny, with a high near 85. Light and variable wind becoming southeast 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.
