The Glenmoor Country Club in Cherry Hills Village will lay off most of its employees by December for a large remodeling project.

Club officials filed a WARN notice with the Colorado Secretary of State Monday indicating 110 of the its 150 employees will be permanently laid off by Dec. 31.

The “Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act” (WARN) is a law that requires employers to provide employees experiencing employment loss with a 60-day notice prior to a layoff, according to the Secretary of State’s website.

“We’re sad to see staff go, but without a clubhouse we’ve got no restaurant and no banquet catering,” said Monica Mueller, human resources director. “It’s going to impact a lot of staff.”

The 40-year-old facility needs a complete overhaul, to the tune of $35 million in upgrades, she said.

“This is not the first they’ve heard of it, but we also met with all the staff members and communicated it personally,” Mueller said.

In the meantime, the club’s golf course, swimming pool and tennis courts will be open for the 2025 season. The full remodel won’t be done until the 2026 season rolls around.

“We’re hoping to welcome most of them back, but we can’t ask them to hang around for a year-and-a-half,” she said. “Our grand re-opening is set for Memorial Day 2026.”

Jobs eliminated include housekeeping, maintenance, golf course workers, golf club workers, receptionists, servers, bartenders and cooks.

Much of the staff is seasonal anyway, as the pool closes at the end of September. About 100 staff members, of the 250 when fully staffed for summer, have already gone, she said.

“That’s the highest we’ve ever gotten, as far as staff size,” Mueller said.

The 18-hole course was designed by Pete Dye in 1984, and renovated in 2023 by Love Golf Design at a cost of $8 million, according to its website.

The club underwent a $4 million renovation in 2019, with upgrades to the outdoor patio and pool area.

“It’s a bittersweet situation, but we’re excited,” Mueller said. “The members have been talking about this for a year, and 77% of them voted to move forward now.”
