BREAKING: Wildfire sparks near popular trailhead in Colorado’s Summit County
A wildfire has sparked in Summit County amid ‘very high’ fire danger conditions.
The blaze sparked above Meadow Creek Trailhead, just north of Frisco and north of I-70. The smoke from the fire can be seen from the interstate and has been prompting concern from the public.
Little information has been released about the fire at this time.
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office, Summit Fire & EMS, Red, White, & Blue Fire Protection District, and the US Forest Service (White River National Forest) are responding to the blaze.
Summit County is currently under ‘Stage 1’ fire restrictions, which prohibit all open fires outside of permanent fire rings in designated campgrounds and permitted backyard campfires in which ember screens are used, according to Summit Fire & EMS.
Don’t be fooled by cooling temperatures and recent snow that fire risk is gone in Colorado. It’s still very much present, with fire risks typically present year-round in the Centennial State. Always be careful to follow best practices related to fire safety, regardless of the season.
