A new video allegedly shows members of a Venezuelan gang swarming an Aurora apartment complex with guns.

The video — posted by Vicente Arenas of  Fox 31 Denver and sent to Aurora City Councilmember Danielle Jurinsky by local residents — shows five men walking up the stairs at The Edge at Lowry apartments. Four of the men appear to have guns, including rifles, and the fifth man is holding what appears to be a cellphone.

The men then open the apartment door, though the footage does not show them fully entering the residence.

Jurinsky claimed that the footage showed members of Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan prison gang known as TDA, taking over the apartment complex.

The Aurora Police Department has yet to confirm the potential affiliation.

CBZ Management — which owns 11 properties in Denver, Aurora, Colorado Springs and Pueblo, including The Edge at Lowry — has claimed that growing violence and a “gang presence” at its Aspen Grove Apartments on Nome Street and Colfax Avenue has precluded the company from caring for the apartment complex.

The Aspen Grove Apartments were eventually shut down and residents were evicted by the City of Aurora two weeks ago.

The Edge at Lowry consists of four rundown buildings on the block of 12th and Dallas. Most of the units are rented by immigrants, though some American citizens also live there.

In a statement Wednesday, the Aurora Police Department noted that it has established a special task force with other local, state and federal partners to address the concerns about the Venezuelan gang.

“We are aware that components of TDA are operating in Aurora,” the department said. “APD has been increasingly collecting evidence to show the gang is connected to crimes in the area. However, as we have said previously and as the DEA similarly stated, it would be improper at this time for the city and APD to make any conclusory statements about specific incidents or provide details about law enforcement strategy and operations.”

In a separate statement, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s Rocky Mountain Field Division said it has seized drugs bound for metro Denver from alleged Tren de Aragua members. But the agency did not comment on claims of the gang’s presence at the apartment complex.

“The DEA has prioritized organizations most responsible for the trafficking of fentanyl into our communities,” Special Agent in Charge Jonathan Pullen said. “In recent months, our agents – working in collaboration with federal, state and local partners here in Colorado – have seized multi-kilogram quantities of fentanyl destined for the Denver-Metro area from individuals believed to be members and/or associates of the gang known as Tren de Aragua.”

The Denver Police Department also acknowledged the gang’s presence in Denver in a statement Wednesday, saying “there are reasons to believe that members of this gang are tied to crimes in the area.”

There are no known apartment “takeovers” by the gang in the city, the department said.
