‘Risk of heavy snow’ warning posted to kick off February in Colorado
It’s looking like there might be a snowy start to February in Colorado, according to an experimental ‘risk of heavy snow’ map published by the National Weather Service.
The map indicates that there’s a chance of heavy snow moving through the entire Centennial State from February 1 to February 7.
This potential round of snow will follow snow that’s expected to hit southern Colorado peaks and southwest peaks through Saturday, to the tune of up to 12 inches.
According to the USDA, Colorado’s snowpack currently sits at 90 percent of the to-date norm, as of January 25.
It may also be worth noting that the Farmers’ Almanac is calling for a chilly and wet spring in Colorado, though the legitimacy of this report is sometimes brought into question. Meanwhile, the National Weather Service is a bit torn on what spring will bring at this time, showing equal chances of above or below-norm precipitation and temperatures.
