A Greeley man died in the backyard of a home during a significant hailstorm that moved through the city last week.

Joseph Rosendo Henry Carrisales, 48, was found dead in the backyard of a Greeley home around the time that a storm brought about golf ball sized hail and flooding to neighborhoods east of the city, according to a press release from the Weld County Coroner’s Office.

The coroner’s office was notified that the man had died in the 800 block of 24th Street last Wednesday, the day after the storm struck the area and caused an approximated $1 million in damages, a spokesperson from the City of Greeley told The Denver Gazette on Thursday.

Carrisales was found dead outside at a friend’s residence, according to the coroner’s office. The office is still determining whether the death was related to the storm the night before.

The incident remains under investigation. They’re waiting on lab results to determine his cause and manner of death, the coroner’s office said.

“We are sad to send him off but we must try to stay strong, especially for my mom,” Carrisales’ sisters wrote on a GoFundMe started on Sunday. “She is so completely devastated that she lost her baby boy. She says she can hardly take a breath knowing he is not taking his.”
