Movie rundown for the weekend through Nov. 17

OPENING

“A Real Pain” — (Comedy, R, 90 minutes). Old tensions resurface when two mismatched cousins tour Poland to honor their grandmother.

“Bird” — (Drama, R, 119 minutes). Bailey and her brother live with their father, Bug, who doesn’t have much time to spend with them, so Bailey looks for adventure and attention elsewhere.

“Hello, Love, Again” — (Drama, not rated, 120 minutes). After a global shutdown, time and distance kept them apart, Joy and Ethan meet again in Canada but realize they have individually changed.

“Matka” — (Action, not rated, 152 minutes). Based on the Matka gambling scams that took place in the 20th century. 

“Red One” — (Comedy, PG-13, 123 minutes). When Santa Claus is kidnapped, the North Pole’s head of security and a world-famous bounty hunter go on a mission to save Christmas.

“Shawn Mendes: For Friends & Family Only, a Live Concert Film” — (Music, not rated). Experience the first performance of his new album performed at Bearsville Theater in Woodstock, NY.

ONGOING

“Absolution” — (Action, R, 112 minutes). Grade: C, Katie Walsh. While trying to rectify his past mistakes and reconnect with his children, an aging gangster finds the criminal underworld won’t loosen its grip on him.

“Andrea Bocelli 30: The Celebration” — (Music, not rated, 148 minutes). Andrea Bocelli’s three-day concert in Tuscany, Italy.

“Anora” — (Comedy, R, 139 minutes). Once news reaches Russia that Anora, a young sex worker from Brooklyn, marries the son of an oligarch, her parents travel to New York to get the marriage annulled.

“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” — (Comedy, PG-13, 104 minutes). Grade: C, Katie Walsh. A portal to the afterlife is opened after Lydia’s teenage daughter finds a model of the town in the attic of the Winter River home. Lydia knows it won’t be long before someone says Beetlejuice three times and the demon will return to unleash his own brand of mayhem.

“The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” — (Drama, not rated, 114 minutes). Grade: C, Katie Walsh. When six of the worst kids in the history of the world take over the town’s yearly Christmas performance, they may unwittingly teach the town the true meaning of Christmas.

“Blitz” — (Action, PG-13, 120 minutes). Follows a group of Londoners during the British capital bombing in WWII.

“Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point” — (Comedy, PG-13, 106 minutes). A family gathers in their ancestral home on Christmas Eve and during all the hectic chaos two teenagers sneak out of the house and make the holiday their own.

“Conclave” — (Thriller, PG, 120 minutes). Grade: B-, Katie Walsh. When Cardinal Lawrence is given the task to find a new pope after the unexpected death of the current one, he finds himself at the center of a conspiracy that could shake the foundation of the Catholic Church.

“Elevation” — (Action, R, 90 minutes). While trying to save the life of a young boy, two women and a single father face monstrous creatures in the post-apocalyptic Rocky Mountains.

“Elf” — (Comedy, PG, 97 minutes). Buddy is a human who was adopted by and raised by elves in the North Pole. After finding out he was adopted, Buddy goes to New York to find his real father who doesn’t know he exists.

“Emilia Pérez” — (Comedy, R, 132 minutes). A lawyer in Mexico is asked to help a cartel boss retire and disappear forever by becoming the woman he always wanted to be.

“Here” — (Drama, PG-13, 104 minutes). Grade: C-, Katie Walsh. The story of families’ love, loss, laughter and life shared through the generations.

“Heretic” — (Horror, R, 110 minutes). Grade: B, Katie Walsh. After knocking on the wrong door, two young missionaries become entangled in Mr. Reed’s deadly game of cat-and-mouse.

“Kanguva” — (Action, not rated, 154 minutes). A shadow cop’s quest in the future is somehow connected to a tribal warrior’s fight to save his people a millennium ago.

“Memoir of a Snail” — (Animation, R, 95 minutes). The story of Grace Pudel who hoards snails, romance novels and guinea pigs.

“Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom” — (Anime, R, 135 minutes). Hoping to defeat the Demon Emperor Jaldabaot, Momonga rallies the Sorcerer Kingdom to join the fight along with the Sacred Kingdom and the Slane Theocracy.

“Small Things Like These” — (Drama, PG-13, 98 minutes). Father Bill Furlong uncovers disturbing secrets of the local convent while discovering truths of his own.

“Smile 2” — (Horror, R, 127 minutes). Grade: B, Katie Walsh. While on a world tour, pop sensation Sky Riley is forced to face her dark past when she becomes overwhelmed by the pressures and horrors of fame.

“The Substance” — (Horror, R, 140 minutes). Grade: A, Katie Walsh. A celebrity who is past her prime decides to try a black-market drug that will temporarily make her a younger, better version of herself.

“Terrifier 3” — (Horror, not rated, 125 minutes). Art the Clown returns on Christmas Eve to cause chaos in the lives of Miles County residents.

“The Trophy Bride” — (Comedy, not rated, 112 minutes). A family looking to secure their fortune, a family tries to pass off their daughter as a trophy wife to an elite family.

“Twisters” — (Action, PG-13, 117 minutes). Grade: A-, Katie Walsh. A meteorologist and a retired tornado-chaser find themselves fighting for their lives when they go to Oklahoma to test new technologies and end up in the path of multiple storms.

“Venom: The Last Dance” — (Action, PG-13, 109 minutes). Grade: B-, Katie Walsh. While Eddie and Venom are on the run and being hunted by both their worlds, the duo is forced to make a decision that will end their last dance.

“Weekend in Taipei” — (Action, R, 100 minutes). Unaware of the dangerous consequences of their past, a former undercover operative and a former DEA agent revisit their love affair that took place in Taipei.

“We Live in Time” — (Drama, R, 107 minutes). After a chance encounter, an up-and-coming chef and a recent divorcée find their lives changed forever during a decade-spanning romance.

“The Wild Robot” — (Animation, PG, 102 minutes). After becoming shipwrecked on an uninhabited island, an intelligent robot named Roz bonds with the island’s animals and starts caring for an orphaned baby goose.
