Thanksgiving brings about a bevy of closures in the Denver metro area as government agencies celebrate the holiday and the day after, setting up for a long weekend.

Most government offices and city agencies in the state will be shutdown on Thursday in observation of Thanksgiving, a federal holiday. There will be no mail services that day, either. Most businesses will also be closed on Thursday, though some may be operating with a limited schedule. Officials urged the public to check out a business’ specific website before traveling to it.

All 24-hour agencies — like emergency services and the Denver International Airport — will remain full operations on Thanksgiving and the next day.

Though Thanksgiving is a federal holiday, the next day is not. Most Colorado state government agencies will be taking off Friday, though. Denver city buildings aren’t set to close during the day, but may operate on limited hours. Officials said people should check out a specific city building’s website before traveling to it.

Mail services will continue operating on Friday, too.

Street parking throughout the city of Denver will be free on Thursday for the holiday. It will return to normal prices on Friday.

Aurora will close most city buildings and agencies on Thursday and Friday. There may be adjusted hours, as well.

All state parks, county parks, campgrounds and boat ramps will remain open through the holiday. Colorado Parks and Wildlife is offering free entry to all state parks on Friday for Fresh Air Friday.

For those heading north, the City of Loveland will be closing all offices and most facilities on Thursday and Friday. Public transportation will be shutdown on Thursday and open on Friday.
