Former Loveland officer arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting minor while on duty

28-year-old Dylan Miller was arrested on Monday

A Loveland police officer was arrested on multiple felony charges on Monday, including the sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl while on duty back in July.

Dylan Miller, 28, was taken into custody and booked in a Larimer County Jail on Monday. He was also officially fired by the Loveland Police Department — in which he started working as a police officer on May 20, 2022, according to a news release by the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office.

Miller was arrested on charges of:

  • First-degree kidnapping
  • Sexual assault on a child – position of trust
  • Unlawful sexual conduct by a peace officer
  • Sexual assault
  • Official oppression
  • First-degree official misconduct

The initial incident happened in late July when Miller contacted the female victim and others during a traffic stop, according to the release. The victim claimed that several days later, she was with another person at a Loveland park after hours when Miller contacted them. Miller then allegedly told the other person to leave and told the victim to walk with him to a secluded area away from the street. He then allegedly sexually assaulted her.

The Loveland Police Department received a report of the assault in late October. The department contacted the sheriff’s office to conduct the investigation. Investigators later identified the suspect as Miller. Miller was placed on administrative leave four days after the complaint was filed.

“Our community deserves transparency and accountability,” Loveland Police Chief Timothy Doran said at a Monday news conference. “People who victimize children deserve to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Anyone who uses their badge to do so is a disgrace to this profession and should be rooted out.”

“I spent years investigating crimes against children. These are difficult cases for everyone, most of all for victims and their families,” Sheriff John Feyen said.

Before being hired by LPD in 2022, Miller worked for the Durango Police Department between September 2020 and May 2022.

Investigators are concerned that other victims may exist.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Investigative Sgt. Rita Servin at 970-498-5513.

Miller was assigned to the patrol division at the Loveland Police Department for a little over a year.
