Answer: Peyton Watson is the clear choice. His potential is enormous.
I’m not just talking about Watson’s 7-foot wingspan.
The second-year pro, selected No. 30 overall in the 2022 NBA draft, was a raw project that needed a full season to learn. Watson appeared in only 23 games as a rookie while averaging 3.3 points and 1.6 rebounds off the bench. But he made the most of his 3-point opportunities — making 6-of-14 shots from deep (42%) — while protecting the rim with 11 blocks.
Those strengths are exactly what this Nuggets team needs. He’ll need to earn the trust of teammates and coaches to replace Jeff Green’s rotation minutes. Gaining muscle will also aid in his NBA growth.
Give general manager Calvin Booth credit for not forcing Watson’s development last season. Now, it’s time to see if he can hang with a championship-proven roster.

Answer: Reggie Jackson
The biggest question for the bench is how they replace Bruce Brown. Christian Braun should be ready to assume the defensive responsibilities, but the Nuggets still need a ballhandler off the bench. That’s Reggie Jackson, who looked more comfortable in his first preseason game this season than he did for most of his short time with the Nuggets last season.
Denver’s bench is going to be young after Brown and Jeff Green’s offseason departures, and Jackson’s a veteran with playoff experience who can be relied upon throughout the season. General manager Calvin Booth and coach Michael Malone were impressed with Jackson’s offseason, which was mostly spent with some of those younger teammates in Denver.
With a more regular role, Jackson should be able to improve on his 7.9 points, 3.1 assists and 27.9 3-point percentage in his first full season with his hometown Nuggets.
