Police issue lockdown near elementary school in Parker
Police presence at nearby apartment complex causes shutdowns
Police in Parker issued a shelter-in-place alert, locking down nearby schools for around half an hour Wednesday morning.
The alert was lifted within an hour later.
Police activity at an apartment complex at Deer Horn Ct in Parker around 9 a.m. Wednesday led to a CodeRED in the region, requesting that all nearby residents shelter in place through a mass phone message, according to a social media post by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
Southeast Christian School — a nearby elementary school — and a daycare were placed under “secure perimeter status,” meaning all exterior doors of the schools were locked and no one was allowed to exit or enter the premises.
Police were performing a “high-risk eviction” in the area, a spokesperson from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office told The Denver Gazette. The subject refused to cooperate with police and barricaded himself inside of an apartment. The sheriff’s office contacted SWAT to assist.
The man was taken into custody shortly after the alert was issued. The CodeRED was lifted around 9:30 a.m.
