Armed man who barricaded himself in Aurora on Thursday identified

A 36-year-old man has been identified as the person who barricaded himself in a residence in Aurora Thursday night.

James Hollie, 36, is currently being held in the Arapahoe County Detention Center on an outstanding warrant. Additional charges could be added by the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s office in the coming days, said Matt Longshore, a public information officer with the Aurora Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to the Waterford Court Apartment complex in the 3100 block of South Urban Way around 3:15 p.m. Thursday after a report of a family disturbance.

During the initial call, the party informed dispatch the Hollie was allegedly armed, and as a result the police department’s SWAT Unit was activated, Longshore said.

Police issued reverse 911 calls due to the incident and urged nearby residents to evacuate the area, while also attempting to communicate with Hollie for a peaceful resolution.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m. Hollie surrendered without incident. No one was injured during the incident, Longshore said.

Hollie is scheduled to appear in Arapahoe County District Court on Tuesday, according to online court records.
