Police investigating domestic violence homicide in Fort Collins

One man is dead after being shot in his home during a domestic violence dispute Friday morning in Fort Collins, police said.

Officers were dispatched to a home in the 1600 block of Sagewood Drive, just west of the Colorado State University Environmental Learning Center, after a report of a shooting 4:30 a.m.

Upon their arrival, they located a man who suffered a gunshot wound and the woman who called 9-1-1. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Investigators learned through a preliminary investigation that the shooter and the man got into a verbal argument that turned physical overnight. It escalated and the woman shot the man, police said.

Additional information about the victim and suspect has not been released.

“Domestic violence creates layers of pain and tragedy, and its happens among people in all walks of life,” said Fort Collins Police Department Assistant Chief Tim Doran. “Please know that resources are available in our community if you or someone you live is experiencing abuse.”
