Trail Ridge Road opens for season, timed entry into RMNP goes into effect

Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) fully reopened for the season Friday afternoon to all hikers, bikers and drivers.

Despite its opening, officials are warning park-goers that the road could be icy due this weekend to snow melt and winter weather like conditions that could drop temperatures below freezing, according to a release from the park.

Alpine Visitor Center and the Trail Ridge Store will open on Saturday.

Along with the reopening of the road, the park’s time entry system went into effect Friday, giving park-goers and outdoor enthusiasts two options for their visit.

Both options allow access to the park in its entirety, however, one reservation type will restrict access to the Bear Lake Road Corridor for people with certain permits.

Those with Bear Lake Road access are allowed entry between 5 a.m. and 6 p.m., while the other reservation permit allows entry between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., according to the release.

Although designated time slots are issued with each reservation, each visitor will be given a two-hour window for entry beginning at the time of their initial reservation.

For additional information regarding the parks reservation system or road information go to www.nps.gov/romo or call the park’s information office at 97-586-1206.
