Several wildfires around the state exploded during the past 24 hours as the Muddy Slide fire and Sylvan fire gained momentum with no signs of containment.

The National Weather Service lifted almost all red flag warnings throughout the state, but some regions, such as the White River National Forest where the Sylvan fire is burning, increased fire restrictions.

“The entire White River National Forest is in an exceptional drought and there is little relief in the future forecast,” said White River National Forest Supervisor Scott Fitzwilliams.

Here are some of the large, active wildfires burning throughout Colorado as of 7 a.m. Thursday, according to the InciWeb Incident Information System.

Muddy Slide fire

• Size: 4,000 acres
• Containment: 0%
• Location: In the Gore Range, Routt National Forest
• Cause: Unknown

The Muddy Slide fire started about 3 p.m. Sunday. The blaze “grew considerably” with “very active fire,” because of low humidity, warm temperatures and gusty winds. The fire consumed lodgepole pine, fir and spruce, much of which is beetle killed. As of Wednesday night, 122 emergency responders were fighting the fire.

Sylvan fire

• Size: 3,583 acres
• Containment: Unknown
• Location: 16 miles south of Eagle
• Cause: Suspected lightning, under investigation

The Sylvan fire was first reported at 3:15 p.m. Sunday in the White River National Forest, near Sylvan Lake State Park. As of Wednesday morning, 195 emergency responders. Crews made progress Wednesday as overcast skies helped firefighters. Multiple road closures were announced as well as pre-evacuation notices. Air quality in the area worsened because of smoke from the fire.

Oil Springs fire

• Size: 11,933 acres
• Containment: 0%
• Location: 20 miles south of Rangely
• Cause: Lightning

The Oil Springs fire began burning June 18. Firefighters worked to protect structures, including a gas plant. Crews used air tankers to drop retardant and slow the blaze. Several roads were closed Wednesday, according to the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office.

Trail Canyon fire

• Size: 881 acres
• Containment: 90%
• Location: 10 miles northwest of Red Mesa
• Cause: Lightning

The Trail Canyon fire started Friday about 5:15 p.m. On Wednesday, 50 emergency responders fought the blaze. No new growth was reported and crews managed to control the blaze during hot, windy days. Firefighters are on the cusp of full containment.

West fire

• Size: 3,107 acres
• Containment: 30%
• Location: Middle Mountain in the northwest corner of Moffat County
• Cause: Suspected lightning, under investigation

Crews made progress on containment Wednesday, but smoke plumes will continue to be visible as pockets of unburned fuel continue to burn, the Bureau of Land Management said. Fire restrictions are in place and several road closures were issued for county roads.
