Man charged with first-degree murder in Adams County motel shooting
The suspect in a deadly shooting at an Adams County motel earlier this month has been charged with first-degree murder, District Attorney Brian Mason announced Thursday.
Tomas Perez-Gonzalez, 32, was charged for the homicide at the Primrose Motel on June 11. A man was found dead in a vehicle at the motel, having been shot in the head, officials said.
“Perez-Gonzalez unlawfully, feloniously, after deliberation, and with the intent to cause the death of a person other than himself, caused the death of the victim in this case,” read the complaint filed by the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
In addition to first-degree murder, Tomas-Perez was also charged with second-degree aggravated car theft, first-degree aggravated car theft and criminal mischief. The last two charges are from June 17 when he was taken into custody.
Days after the shooting, deputies with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office found Tomas-Perez inside a car parked outside of a Denver motel. When they tried to make contact, Tomas-Perez rammed into the patrol car and drove off, deputies said.
Deputies followed Tomas-Perez to his family member’s home in Arvada where he barricaded himself for several hours before coming out and being arrested.
Perez-Gonzalez’s next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 13 at 1:30 p.m.
