Fire restrictions in effect for Denver Mountain Parks

Fire restrictions have been put in place for all Denver Mountain Parks properties in Jefferson, Clear Creek and Douglas counties as the areas experience extremely dry conditions, Denver Parks and Recreation announced.

Under the fire restrictions, open burning, using or possessing fireworks and smoking outside of an enclosed building or vehicle are all prohibited.

Recreational campfires are also prohibited expect within a permanently constructed fire grate, officials said. Grills that use propane gas are allowed at this time.

These restrictions are in effect beginning Tuesday, lasting until they are superseded or rescinded by the Executive Director of Denver Parks and Recreation.

Effected areas per county are as follows:

  • Jefferson County: Bergen Peak, Fillius, Genesse, Katherine Craig, Lookout Mountain, O’Fallon, Pence, Bell, Cub Creek, Dedisse, Elephant Butte, Berrian Mountain, Newton, Red Rocks and Little Park
  • Clear Creek County: Echo Lake, Summit Lake, Hicks Mountain, Pence Mountain and Forsberg Park
  • Douglas County: Daniel’s Park

This precaution comes as several wildfires over 100 acres large are currently burning throughout the state.

The Denver metro area is expected to reach temperatures of nearly 100 degrees Wednesday; however, precipitation and slightly cooler temperatures are predicted Thursday through Saturday, according to AccuWeather.

Denver Parks and Recreation reminds everyone to exercise caution and practice heightened fire safety at all times, particularly in dry areas.
