Health officials warn of potential measles exposure at sports bar in Colorado

Colorado health officials have made the public aware of a possible measles exposure that took place at a popular Arvada sports bar.

According to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and Broomfield Public Health and Environment, the place of potential exposure was Bout Time Pub & Grub on W. 80th Avenue. Potential exposure took place on the night of March 10 between 8 p.m. and 12:30 a.m., with those who were potentially exposed instructed to be on the lookout for symptoms of measles through April 1.

Per a March 12 report, two cases of measles had been confirmed locally in recent days with another potential case under investigation – all three cases involving household contacts of a previously-confirmed case. The aforementioned establishment was identified as a potential exposure location related to these cases.

Two of the individuals related to recent cases have been quarantined due to vaccination status, with the other individual not quarantined due to prior vaccination.

With measles considered highly contagious, those who may have been exposed who have not been vaccinated or are unaware of their vaccination status have been told to get vaccinated, though the 72-hour period following potential exposure during which a vaccine can prevent illness has already lapsed. Otherwise, watch for symptoms – fever, cough, a runny nose, and red eyes tend to be first signs of measles, followed by a rash several days later. Those who believe they may have measles should seek medical care, but should also call the medical facility prior to arriving to inform them of potential exposure so that steps can be taken to prevent further spread.
