Whataburger may be coming soon to metro Denver area

The south metro Denver area may soon see its first Whataburger location in over 40 years.

Burgerworks Colorado, the franchise that operates locations of the Texas-based burger chain in southern Colorado, submitted plans in November to build a location in Castle Rock, according to a land use application on the city’s website. The location would be built near the Outlets at Castle Rock shopping center, northeast of the intersection of Alpine Vista Circle and Promenade Parkway.

The project is currently under review as of Tuesday, according to Castle Rock’s website. If approved, construction of the restaurant would be the next step. Though a beginning date for construction was not included in the application materials, the application indicates the restaurant would be built in a single phase, expected to last three to four months.

The restaurant, like other locations, will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Whataburger currently operates several restaurants in the Colorado Springs area, in addition to a location in Pueblo. Those locations are fairly new, with the first location in Colorado Springs opening in 2022. Should the location in Castle Rock be approved and built, it would be the first in the Denver metro area in several decades.

The burger chain, founded in 1950 in Corpus Christi, Texas, has long been a favorite of Texans. Of the 1,180 locations in the United States, 774 of them are in Texas, with most other restaurants located in the Southern United States.

Currently, Whataburger has 9 locations in Colorado.
