Aaron Gordon out for Nuggets’ Game 3 vs. Timberwolves, status for Game 4 uncertain
MINNEAPOLIS — Aaron Gordon’s health trended in the wrong direction ahead of Game 3.
Denver’s starting power forward was originally listed as probable for Thursday’s game at Target Center with left calf tightness. Thursday afternoon, Gordon’s status was changed to questionable. Nuggets coach David Adelman announced 90 minutes before tipoff that Aaron Gordon would not play at Target Center.
Gordon first started experiencing the tightness after Denver’s Game 2 loss. He participated in a light practice Wednesday in Denver.
“We were waiting to see how he was going to react to it,” Adelman said. “You don’t practice hard in between these games, so it was more of a walk-through prep situation, which he was a part of. Today, there wasn’t much improvement, so he’s out.”
Peyton Watson, who remains out with a right hamstring strain, is the only other member of the Nuggets listed on the injury report. That leaves Denver down a pair of forwards who were fixtures in the regular-season rotation.
“It means that a bunch of different guys have to step up,” Adelman said. “Maybe they have to do things they’re not comfortable doing. That’s the bottom line.”
Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards was listed as questionable with right knee injury maintenance, but Minnesota coach Chris Finch anticipated his star would be available. He played in the first two games after carrying the same designation. Minnesota reserves Jaylen Clark and Terrence Shannon Jr., both out with an illness, are the only other players on the Timberwolves’ injury report.
After having two days between Games 2 and 3, there is just one day off before Game 4 in Minneapolis. It’s too early to say if Gordon will recover enough to be available Saturday.
“I can’t tell the future, so I don’t know what tomorrow is going to bring,” Adelman said.
