Out of 293 hopefuls, this Colorado ‘West Coast-style IPA’ was dubbed the best

The World Beer Cup ceremony took place in Philadelphia on Wednesday and Colorado brewing companies took home a long list of awards, including five gold medals, 12 silver medals, and 10 bronze medals. The competition occurs on an annual basis and according to the Brewers Association, this year’s competition saw 8,166 entries submitted from a total of 1,644 breweries. With subcategories included, 186 styles of beer were judged by 255 beer and cider professionals representing 37 countries via blind-tasting protocols.

While no Colorado brewery ended up with multiple gold medals, several did get more than one award. It’s also worth noting that Colorado ended up with both the gold and silver medals in the ‘most-entered’ style category – ‘West Coast-Style India Pale Ale,’ which had 293 entrants.
