New details in 2 fatal crashes on I-25 over the weekend emerge
New details have emerged about two fatal crashes on Interstate 25 over the weekend.
Authorities investigated a fatal crash Sunday that left a firefighter lieutenant seriously injured, according to a GoFundMe set up in his name.
Ken Bradley, a lieutenant with Berthoud Fire, was critically injured while driving to work, according to the fundraiser. The crash was a head-on collision caused by a vehicle traveling the wrong way in a reversible HOV lane.
Bradley suffered multiple fractures in both legs, a fractured left arm, a dislocated right shoulder, several broken ribs, a pneumothorax, a significant leg laceration and a concussion, the GoFundMe said.
According to police, the driver traveling the wrong way was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Colorado State Patrol investigated another a fatal crash that left one person dead and two others injured on I-25 Friday.
According to authorities, a Chevrolet Equinox driven by a 31-year-old Aurora man was backing along the right shoulder of I-25 near Happy Canyon Road, when it drifted into a travel lane. An Audi traveling northbound struck the rear of the Equinox, and a third vehicle then collided with the Audi, officials said.
The driver of the Equinox died at the scene. A 46-year-old Parker woman driving the Audi was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. A 58-year-old Castle Pines woman driving the third vehicle suffered moderate injuries.
All three vehicles came to rest on the interstate, blocking lanes of traffic. Portions of I-25 were closed during the investigation but later reopened.
The crash remains under investigation by the Colorado State Patrol’s Vehicular Crimes Unit. The Douglas County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the man who died once next-of-kin notifications are completed.
