Denver Weather: Partly sunny with afternoon thunderstorms and potential for hail

Another mixed bag for the weather in the Mile High City again today.

The National Weather Service in Boulder said to expect mostly sunny skies on Thursday morning, with a 40% chance of rain showers this afternoon.

“Strong to severe storms are expected to form east of Denver International Airport after 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon,” he weather service said in a post on X. “The primary threats are large hail and damaging winds but a couple of tornadoes may occur as well.”

According to weather service archive data, the forecast high is about 5 degrees cooler than the average normal high for May 21 in Denver.

Wind gusts could reach up to 16 mph, according to the weather service.

Forecasters said that tonight, residents can expect mostly cloudy skies and more showers and thunderstorms, with a low temperature of 42 degrees and a 40% chance of precipitation this evening.

Friday is expected to be another day of sunshine, followed by an evening of rainstorms.
