“Seek cover”: Tennis ball-size hail possible in Colorado
Much of Colorado is in for an afternoon of severe weather, with hail already being reported in the Denver area.
“Damaging hail moving through Denver!,” read a 1:13 p.m. Monday tweet from the National Weather Service. “Put car in garage if time [permits] and seek cover.” The tweet was accompanied by a photo of ping pong ball-size hail that reportedly fell in the area of Sheridan Boulevard and Colfax Avenue. Find a clip of the hail on our Instagram, too.
As a result of the storms, flights were also halted at Denver International Airport.
The National Weather Service has activated a ‘severe thunderstorm watch’ until 8 p.m. on Monday for much of the I-25 corridor and Eastern Plains region, including major metros of Colorado Springs and Denver. In that warning, key threats are listed as hail up to tennis ball size, tornados, and scattered wind gusts of up to 75 miles per hour.
