I-70 closed in both directions after fire sparks near Glenwood Springs

Glenwood Springs Fire Department reported that their team was responding to a brush fire that sparked along westbound I-70 around mile marker 112 in the South Canyon area at about 3:05 p.m. on June 9. Ten minutes later, the post was updated to indicate that a major closure of I-70 was underway.

According to the department, I-70 is closed in both directions during the fire response, with the blaze described as a ‘brush fire.’ It’s burning west of Glenwood Springs and Colorado River Fire Rescue is responding in mutual aid.

This is a developing story. There’s not much of an indicator in regard to how big the fire is or when I-70 is expected to reopen at this time. To check on the status of the road, visit the Colorado Department of Transportation CoTrip map.
