Denver Weather: Sunny and hot Juneteenth, ahead of weekend thunderstorms

It’s going to be a hot Juneteenth, so be sure you have your sunscreen.

The National Weather Service in Boulder said to expect sunny skies and a high of 86 degrees in the Mile High City on Friday. That is only about 1 degree hotter than the average high for June 19, according to weather service archive data.

Officials warn that hot and stagnant air will create conditions for poor air quality today, which could impact people with respiratory issues.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment issued an Ozone Action Day Alert for the Front Range Urban Corridor, which will be in effect until at least 4 p.m. Friday.

The hot, dry conditions will worsen fire weather conditions in the afternoon the Weather Service said in a post on X.

Wind gusts are expected to reach up to 18 mph on Friday, the weather service said.

Tonight, expect partly cloudy skies with a low around 58 degrees.

Temperatures are expected to climb into the low 90s on Saturday, with a chance for afternoon thunderstorms. A chance for more thunderstorms returns on Sunday.
