Pueblo County wildland blaze under control; evacuations lifted

A wildfire in Pueblo County that destroyed several homes and forced an evacuation on Sunday is under control and the evacuation order has been lifted, according to the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office.

The wildland blaze was first reported around 6:20 p.m. Sunday near Interstate 25 south of Pueblo, officials said. Multiple agencies responded to the blaze and the Sheriff’s Office issued an evacuation order for all residents of the Applewood Estates, a mobile home park about 25 miles south of Pueblo.

An evacuation center for displaced residents and small animals was set up at 1650 Cooper Place in Pueblo and a large animal and livestock shelter was established at the Colorado State Fairgrounds. Both shelters were closed as of 7:30 a.m. Monday.

Several structures, including homes, have been damaged by the blaze, but no injuries have been reported. The size and cause of the fire have not yet been determined.
