1up Arcade Bar announces closure of original LoDo location

It’s officially game over for the original location of one of Denver’s most popular arcade bar chains.

On Monday, 1up Arcade Bar announced on its website and social media that it has officially closed the doors on its underground Blake Street location, ending a 15-year run in the shadow of Coors Field.

“When we opened on March 23, 2011, we had no idea what this little experiment would become,” 1up said in the post. “What started as a passion project built around classic arcade games, pinball machines, craft beer and a love for gaming grew into something far larger than we ever imagined.”

The business cited changing conditions in downtown Denver, as well as added pressures facing the hospitality industry, as reasons for the location’s closure.

The Blake Street location was the first for the business, which has since added an additional Denver establishment on Colfax Avenue, as well as others in Westminster and Greenwood Village, according to its website.

It also announced a brand-new location in Lakewood’s Belmar Shopping District in the post, which, at 13,000 square feet, will be the largest 1up Arcade Bar.

“Very few independent bars or restaurants are fortunate enough to serve their communities for 15 years. We never took that privilege for granted,” 1up said in the post. “The original LoDo location may have closed, but its legacy will live on in every future version of 1up Arcade Bar.”
