Aspen Acres wildfire grows to over 50,000 acres

The Aspen Acres fire has grown to 50,187 acres on Thursday, increasing from 35,468 acres at the last update this morning.

According to reporting from The Gazette, emergency teams from several states, including Alaska, have come to Colorado to help fight the fire, which is still at 0 percent containment. Alaska Complex Incident Management Team 1 took over command of the operation on Thursday morning.

The communities of Wetmore and Colorado City were evacuated after the fire’s growth on Wednesday, joining Beulah, Rye and San Isabel, per reporting from The Denver Gazette.

The National Weather Service issued a red-flag weather warning for Pueblo and Custer counties for Thursday and Friday. According to The Gazette, the two days are supposed to be windy and sunny, with 20-25 mph winds increasing the chance of continued extreme fire behavior.
