Giants 6, Rockies 4
What happened: San Francisco hopped on Colorado starting pitcher Sean Sullivan for four runs in the first inning, setting the tone for a 14-hit attack by the Giants that would carry them to victory.
On the mound: Sullivan, filling in for injured starter Tomoyuki Sugano, gave up 12 hits and six runs over his 5 2/3 innings. His 105 pitches thrown were a career high. Reliever Jordan Romano made his Rockies debut in the ninth inning, allowing one hit and striking out two.
At the plate: Cole Carrigg reached base safely in his 17th consecutive game thanks to a three-run homer in the bottom of the first. After being announced as Colorado’s All-Star Game representative, Hunter Goodman went 2 for 2 at the plate with a pair of walks.
What’s next: Colorado and San Francisco wrap up their three-game series at Coors Field at 2 p.m. Sunday. The Rockies will send Tanner Gordon (0-2, 6.69 ERA) to the mound while the Giants will counter with Tyler Mahle (1-8, 5.67).
