7 mountain towns with charming main streets worth checking out
Main streets across Colorado are full of history, charm, unique shops, and much more. Visitors can do everything from learn about history and attend festivals to shop at vibrant stores and enjoy delicious locally made food.
Here are some of the most charming and awe-inspiring main streets across the Centennial State:
- Breckenridge’s Main Street
Breckenridge’s historic main street is filled with plenty of opportunities for dining and shopping. Visitors can also find events, festivals, music and activities that run in the area year-round (like Ullr Fest and the International Snow Sculpture Championships). 2. Telluride’s Colorado Avenue
Set within a box canyon in the San Juan Mountains, Telluride’s historic downtown and main street features boutique shopping, gourmet cuisine and lively bars and other entertainment. The Victorian-era architecture almost makes it feel like taking a step back in time. And according to U.S. News, there are no chain restaurants or big-box stores in the town, so you’re sure to find some hidden gems.
3. Grand Lake
Grand Lake’s boardwalk features a variety of clothing boutiques, art galleries, jewelry stores, antique shops and outdoor retailers. Visitors can enjoy a sweet treat from ice cream parlors and candy shops in the area as well.
4. Crested Butte’s Elk Avenue
As a National Historic District, this street in Crested Butte features brightly colored Victorian-era storefronts including the Crested Butte Museum. Visitors will be immersed in the street’s historic buildings, art galleries, museums and local shops and restaurants.
5. Boulder’s Pearl Street Mall
This four-block pedestrian-only section of street in Boulder spotlights street performers, a variety of shops and plenty of restaurants and bars to enjoy. History buffs can even enjoy reading a series of plaques along Pearl Street, and you’ll spot 15,000 tulips blooming in flower beds along the street in the spring.
6. Manitou Springs’ Manitou Avenue
Manitou Avenue sits at the foot of Pikes Peak, and is known for its natural mineral springs, historical shops, eclectic boutiques, art galleries and access to the Manitou Incline. The Penny Arcade is an excellent spot for a unique adventure in the area. Visitors can also enjoy plenty of excellent restaurants in the area once they’re finished exploring.
7. Golden’s Washington Avenue
Golden’s main street runs near Clear Creek, offering a scenic view to enjoy as you explore area’s restaurants, shops and more. The street offers a great spot to learn about pioneer history in Colorado, participate in outdoor recreation (like tubing Clear Creek), and enjoy restaurants like Woody’s Wood-Fire Pizza.
