Ultralight helicopter crashes in Larkspur; pilot seriously injured
A pilot suffered serious injuries Monday morning when an ultralight helicopter crashed in the Perry Park area near Larkspur, authorities said.
Emergency crews responded shortly before 8 a.m. to reports of a downed aircraft near Inca Road, Crow Drive and Cheyenne Drive. First responders located an ultralight helicopter that had crashed, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
The sole occupant, a 65-year-old man, suffered injuries to the head and a femur, according to emergency dispatch information. The pilot was airlifted from the scene by an AirLife helicopter and taken to a trauma center.
The DCSO later said the pilot sustained serious injuries.
Authorities reported an active fuel leak following the crash, but no fire occurred.
Larkspur Fire Protection District said firefighters treated the injured pilot at the scene before the patient was transported by helicopter. The agency noted that several residents in Perry Park heard or witnessed the crash.
Deputies and firefighters remained on scene Monday morning. Federal aviation authorities will investigate the cause of the crash, according to the fire district.
