This time the door opened for Carson Lundell at the Inspirato Colorado Open.

After knocking on the door at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club with two ties for sixth and a third place, on Sunday Lundell broke through with a final-round 66 to take home the title and $50,000.

“It means the world,” Lundell said. “This is a big event and I’ve taken sixth twice and third once, so I’ve been knocking at the door every year. I knew it’s just a matter of time before I’d be able to get it done. It means everything. I love this event and love this course.”

Lundell, who was tied for the lead with Zander Winston going into the final round, made six birdies and one bogey to finish the tournament at 20 under. Two pars he made on the back nine were the key for the 28-year-old.

On the 462-yard 15th hole, Lundell hit a 4-iron into the fairway and had a good look at the green. He felt he hit a good second shot, but with temperatures near 100 once again, the greens were hard, and his ball bounded off the back of the green.

His chip came up a bit short, but Lundell hit a downhill slider from about 12 feet to save his par.

“I hit a great shot in there,” he said. “The greens get so firm in the afternoon and (I) didn’t have a great lie back there and came a little short. It was one of those putts like I got over it and knew it was going to drop.”

All Lundell needed was a par on the par-5 18th hole to secure the title and wanted to play it safe off the tee. He once again hit his 4-iron but hit it very thin.

“Luckily I got away with it and it put me in a good spot,” he said.

The BYU graduate wanted to go for the green but decided against it with the wind picking up down the stretch. He laid up and put his third shot to about 18 feet. He two-putted for the victory.

“I mean, it’s supposed to be pretty comfy to two-putt from 18 feet, but that’s a little easier said than done,” Lundell said. “Happy it ended up the way it did.”

Fort Collins’ AJ Ott made a charge on the final day and finished second, just one shot behind Lundell. Ott, who played college golf at Colorado State, where he was teammates with 2024 champion Davis Bryant and was low amateur in 2019, birdied his last five holes and three others on the front nine to tie for the low round of the day at 8-under 63.

“I actually didn’t look at the leaderboard all week,” Ott said. “On 18, I had a feeling that I needed to make that putt for eagle, but it didn’t go in. So when I got done, I kind of felt like I was gonna be just short, but that’s how it goes.”

Ott would have been the third straight winner from Colorado after Bryant in 2024 and Jim Knous in 2025.

Former CU Buffs and Northfield High School star Hunter Swanson finished his pro debut with a tie for sixth at 15 under. Swanson got to within one early on the front nine, but a string of three straight bogeys knocked him from contention.

With the hot temperatures, Lundell carried his own bag all four days at Green Valley Ranch. He said he loves “his process” and “prefers to carry his own bag.”

Lundell will not have much time to rest, as he is flying home to Utah for a Korn Ferry Monday qualifier for the Utah Championship. He also plans to play in Korn Ferry Q-School in the fall.
