North Boulder shelter in place lifted, suspect arrested after 12 hour self-barricade
Boulder Police Department
Police arrested an armed suspect in north Boulder Tuesday morning after he barricaded himself inside a home for about 12 hours.
At 8:09 p.m. Monday, a woman called Boulder police to report a man, identified as Milton Rodriguez, 47, outside of her home in the 4600 block of 16th Street, according to a news release.
The woman saw Rodriguez, who was not allowed to be there due to a protection order, break into the home through surveillance video. She was not home at the time.
Responding officers saw Rodriguez, who appeared to be armed, inside the home covering windows, according to the release. He refused to leave the home despite officers’ attempts to safely take him into custody.
At 11 p.m., the Boulder Police SWAT Team was activated and dispatch sent out a shelter in place alert for the area shortly afterward.
During the incident, Rodriguez caused “extensive damage” to the home and police equipment, according to authorities.
At 8:10 a.m. Tuesday, Rodriguez surrendered and was taken into custody without injury. He was taken to jail on charges of:
- Felony first-degree burglary
- Felony stalking
- Felony criminal mischief
- Misdemeanor violation of a protection order
- Misdemeanor resisting arrest
- Misdemeanor obstruction of justice
- Misdemeanor domestic violence
The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office has not responded to the Denver Gazette’s request for Rodriguez’s mugshot.
